Yet another 90’s travel brochure (we’re almost done with them, for now…), this time an Adventure Island brochure from 1993. I’ve never been to AI, and have only been to its sister park, Busch Gardens once, so this doesn’t bring back any nostalgic memories like the Pleasure Island/Disney Marketplace ones have. But its still cool looking back at these and seeing how things have changed in the last 25 years. For instance the two big draws in this brochure, the Tampa Typhoon and the Gulf Scream are both gone (closed in 2005, demolished in 2014 [where they just sitting there for nine years unused?]), and replaced by the Colossal Curl, a tube slide that opened in 2015. I may have to check this one out next time we go to Busch Gardens (which, based on my previous record, should be about 2053).

Pleasure Island Brochure – Spring 1993
Unlike some of the brochures we’ve highlighted recently, including this one on Pleasure Island’s older sister, this one from Disney’s Pleasure Island is easy to pin down to Spring 1993. For one thing it flat out tells us that its prior to Summer 1993 (see the Coming Soon pic for Pleasure Island Jazz Company), and…

Julie’s Place – Tallahassee – Matchbook
Today we have a small reminder of a once great drinking (and eating, but the drinks were always better than the food in my opinion) establishment in North Tallahassee. Julie’s Place is long gone (it was bought by a one-time manager sometime in the early 00’s and I guess he didn’t understand that running a…
Luzy Ho’s (aka Uforia) + Mark’s Bar – Tallahassee, FL
This was the original location of Lucy Ho’s, a Tallahassee institution. Later in life it was known as Uforia (as can be seen on the signage), and there was a little bar off the right called Mark’s Bar, ran by a guy named Mark. Now (Feb 2018) it’s been demolished and something “new” is being…

Walt Disney World Village Relics
Following on from a couple of recent posts (here and here) I came across some relics of the original Walt Disney World Village in a book I got back in 1988 when I attended an art class at Disney World (for Junior High Art Club, an early boondoggle). First we have Louie Bellson in “The…

Daytona Boardwalk
May 28, 2016Daytona Beach Boardwalk A late Memorial Day weekend Saturday at the Daytona Beach Boardwalk, or what’s left of it. I remember coming here as a kid many times, and there’s even a family link, all of which I’ll go into in other posts other times. For now, I want to get the pics…

Putnam Hotel – DeLand, FL – post fire pics
After the suspicious fire at the historic Putnam Hotel earlier this year, just weeks after it was sold, I figured I’d better get by there again to get some more snaps before it falls to the inevitable, regardless of what the new owners say.
